Interior design trends that will help your home stand out in 2019

Whether this is the year that you plan to sell your house, or maybe it’s just time your home had an interior makeover, staying in tune with design trends will not only enliven and modernise your living space, but it will also make your home appear more desirable to buyers.

We spoke with Creative Design Director of Mr Home Staging & Design Co, who specialise in premium real estate styling, Gregg Churchill, about the trends to watch in 2019 and why styling your home can be the key to a quick successful sale.

According to Mr Home Staging & Design Co, 2018 was the year of bold colours, metallics, indoor patterned plants and big art, with Google searches up 533 per cent for patterned plants and the search for ‘big wall art’ up 637 per cent in 2018.

We asked Mr Churchill for his expertise and advice on trends we can expect to see in 2019, as well as his advice on how the appearance of your home can influence a quick and successful sale.

What are some design trends that we can expect to see in 2019?

  1. Black is back – Nothing creates a sense of drama better than ebony black. Expect to see bold, high-contrast designs all over your Instagram feeds in 2019, as matte black moves from fashion and beauty into home-wares and interiors. Lighting, seating, home accessories and sideboards are all key pieces you can introduce to reference the trend. This one is likely to be with us for a long time, as well as a good time.
  2. Less is more – Minimalism continues to blaze a clutter-free path through the interiors world, it is creating a demand for clean lines and a sense of openness across the whole house. In the kitchen, this is taking shape through a no upper cabinet trend but rather open/exposed shelving units. Bold colours in the kitchen on both appliances and cabinetry is another trend coming to kitchens in 2019.
  3. Green with envy – Will indoor plants ever go out of style? No, never. Big things are predicted for plants with patterned leaves which are about to become a big hit. If you don’t have confidence in your green thumbs, a high-quality artificial plant is the answer. These days artificial plants are indistinguishable from the real thing and beyond a casual dusting require absolutely no gardening skills at all.

How does interior design of a home influence buyers?

The first step toward putting any home up for sale is marketing it online. Buyers will ’get hooked’ online into viewing your property by the beautiful presentation and professional photography/video. If you lose them online, you will never get them to your home opens.

These interior design and styling concepts will engage buyer’s emotions immediately and improve the overall value of a property. These concepts have a HUGE impact on the realtor’s property marketing campaigns as a sophisticated and luxurious listing.

This significantly reduces the number of days on the market by making the property as attractive as possible. The more desirable you make a product/property, the more people will want to own it.

A good interior design has the potential to give your property that extra edge which could make it stand out from competition. If you have a greater number of home viewings, you are more likely to achieve a quick sale.
